The United Nations General Assembly
selected June 26 to honor June 26, 1987,
the day the Convention against Torture
and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading
Treatment or Punishment came into
effect. The convention was created to
reaffirm that the equal and inalienable
rights of the human family are the
foundation of freedom, justice, and
peace in the world.
Torture is one of the most profound
human rights abuses, taking a terrible
toll on millions of individuals and
their families. Rape, blows to the soles
of the feet, suffocation in water,
burns, electric shocks, sleep
deprivation, shaking and beating are
commonly used by torturers to break down
an individual's personality. As terrible
as the physical wounds are, the
psychological and emotional scars are
usually the most devastating and the
most difficult to repair. Many torture
survivors suffer recurring nightmares
and flashbacks. They withdraw from
family, school and work and feel a loss
of trust.
Each of the ways of torture mentioned
above have been faced by the Baloch
people by Pakistan and Iran, resulting
in disabilities of the people released
from the Torture cells. According to the
recently released Shahzeb Baloch,
Organizer Shall Zone, there are more
than 500 hundreds Baloch prisoners only
in the Quli Camp where he was kept, who
are still facing inhumane conditions. It
should be kept in view that Baloch
political prisoners are not even shown
up to any of the courts and they are
abducted rather than being arrested.
More than 142 Baloch women are being
treated as sex slaves in the Pakistani
torture cells, mainly in the Malir
Cantonment located in Karachi, and all
together the number crosses the figure
on 1700 Balochs who have been illegally
kept in the Army torture cells of
Pakistan.
The torture cases which are reported
show the barbarism of the Pakistan Army.
And this can be easily realized by the
Human rights Advocates of the World by
knowing Asad Marri who has been
completely disabled and cannot even
speak properly now, by knowing Munir
Mengal who wished to raise the voice of
Balochs through a Baloch T.V .
channel and had to face years of torture
where he thought that he won’t be able
to survive, by knowing Zarinna Marri who
was a teacher in Kohlu and wanted the
children of Kohlu to have a better
future but was turned in a sex slave in
the torture cells for having such a
wish, by knowing Farid Baloch who had a
will to become a Computer Engineer but
is still facing the torture and has
already turned mentally insane due to
severe torture, as a Baloch who wants
Independence has no right to become an
Engineer, that what kind of tortures are
being faced the Baloch people in army
torture cells. People facing torture are
men and women of all ages, from 2 years
child Murad Jaan to 92 years old
housewife. This should also be taken in
consideration that 100s of members of
B.S.O. (Azad) are in the torture cells
of Pakistan secret Agencies including
Senior Vice Chairman Zakir Majeed and
other central and regional authorities.
Today a strike was observed throughout
Balochistan, and protests and rallys
were joined by Baloch women, men and
children asking to release their loved
ones, who are facing barbarism of the
State sponsored torture cells, which are
meant to tell the people that if you
raise your voice for Justice then this
is what you will have to face.
United Nations which promises equality
for all the Nations have felt reluctant
in taking steps against the Pakistan
army in this respect, the answer of
"WHY" is still unknown. On this Day,
B.S.O.(Azad) appeals the human rights
activists around the world to come
forward for humanity and support the
Baloch people in the fight of their
rights, the right to live, the right to
be free. www.sagaar.org
